Chaplaincy within the Australian Defence Force

  • Are you able to relate well to young people?
  • Are you approachable and accept people as they are?
  • Are you adaptable, resilient and able to cope with a challenge?

Chaplaincy within the Australian Defence Force is an exciting, different and challenging commitment to ministry. It exists to provide spiritual, moral and social well-being to ADF personnel and their families. It is an ecumenical team ministry wherever ADF people are.

Clergy have gone to sea as chaplains since AD600 to exercise the Ministry of Christ’s Gospel through Word and Sacrament. Chaplaincy in the ADF dates from the inception of Navy, Army and Airforce, however its traditions date back into history through the services of the United Kingdom.

Chaplains have served in every situation in peace and war. It is a demanding ministry with many rewarding opportunities. We hope that you will give Chaplaincy your serious consideration as your ministry.
