What Do Chaplains Do?

Your duties as a Chaplain are to:

  • minister to and promote the moral, spiritual and religious well-being of all personnel;
  • provide a pastoral and counselling ministry to ADF personnel and their families;
  • contribute to the development and implementation of character, life skilling and leadership training;
  • conduct and arrange ecumenical services;
  • conduct occasional religious services such as memorial, baptisms, marriages and funerals;
  • do home calls, grief counselling, hospital visits, detention visits as required

You will need a firm conviction of your own vocation as a pastor or minister. Without this, you will find it difficult to maintain the respect of your people, and your ability to function well in an ADF environment. You may be required to be away from your family and local support for long periods of time.
